Rainman is a movie about a man named Charlie Babbit, who has an autistic brother named Raymond. At the beginning of the movie Charlie's father dies, and Charlie is called to come for the reading of his father's will. This is when he discovers that his father's money has been left to someone named Raymond. Charlie goes out to find Raymond to take the money from him. This is when Charlie discover that Raymond is actually is his brother who has autism. At first Charlie has no interest in actually caring for his brother, and just wants the money. Raymond has many quirks from the autism. He has to watch The People's Court and Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune every day at the same time, or he has a fit. He also says that his underwear can only come from K-Mart in Cincinnati, OH. Charlie settles in and begins to learn Raymond's routine and really begins to love and care for his brother. In the end, the doctor at the facility where Raymond was staying wants Raymond to come back to Walbrook. The judge decides to let Raymond decide and Raymond cannot decide for himself and gets upset. Charlie decides that the money isn't as important as his brother being okay, and lets the doctor take him back to Walbrook. The movie ends with Charlie promising Raymond that he will come see him in two weeks, as Raymond boards the Amtrak train to go back to Walbrook.
I enjoyed the movie Rain Man. There were really no boring parts in the movie. I thought that Dustin Hoffman did a really good job of playing a man with autism. I read on the Internet that he spent over a year working closely with people with autism to learn how to speak and act. He deserved the Academy Award that he won for this part. I thought that the plot was very well constructed, and even though the movie, overall, was very serious, the writer used lots of humor throughout the movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to other people.
